Ethical Breeding
At Gaddyrow Gundogs, we only have occasional litters of puppies. This usually happens when we are looking to add a new member to our own Gaddyrow Gang or when our waiting list is full.
Our approach to breeding is never taken lightly. We believe it is a significant responsibility to bring new puppies into the world and we take this responsibility very seriously. Our breeding plans always prioritise the production of healthy puppies, with excellent temperaments, being fit for function, and suitable for both pet and working homes.
With more than 30 years of breeding experience and 10 years working as a Puppy Trainer, Karen brings extensive knowledge and a deep understanding of what is required to raise healthy, happy, and resilient puppies.
Our Approach to Planning, Breeding, and Raising Litters
We carefully plan each litter, always focusing on the health, temperament, and suitability of our puppies for family and working homes. Our commitment is to produce dogs that are confident, resilient and ready to thrive in their new life.
Science-Led Health & Genetics
We focus on breeding for both lasting health and physical appearance. All our breeding dogs undergo thorough health screening, including genetic testing, BVA eye health checks, hip and elbow scoring. Temperament, intelligence, and working ability are key criteria in our selection.
A Nurturing Environment
Our puppies are whelped within our home, with Mum and Puppies receiving constant care and monitoring from birth. We use evidence-based early stimulation protocols, such as Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), to encourage improved long-term health prospects, develop stronger stress tolerance and emotional resilience and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) to develop confidence and scenting abilities, providing a great start for working dogs and family pets alike.
Early Experiences
With fun enrichment activities and free work, our puppies encounter a range of sounds, textures, and social experiences during their crucial development periods, ensuring they are confident and well-adjusted puppies, with big personalities and lots of character.
Life skills
We strive to ensure our puppies are well-equipped for everyday life by introducing essential skills from an early age. Our puppy raising programme includes crate training to help them feel secure and comfortable in their own space, as well as alone training, to encourage independence and reduce separation anxiety. We also familiarise them with car travel, making journeys to new homes as stress-free as possible. Toilet training is carefully managed to establish good habits, while regular grooming and gentle handling teach our puppies to accept care routines and vet examinations with confidence and ease.
Lifelong Commitment
We remain committed to our dogs for life, providing a comprehensive puppy pack, ongoing breeder support, and a contract guaranteeing we will take back any dog should the need arise.
